How do I check a Texas Tech course prerequisite?
Look up the exact course code in your catalog year and read the prerequisite and corequisite lines separately. In Texas Tech’s 2026–27 catalog, CS 1411 requires department approval and lists MATH 1451 as a corequisite.

Open the course description for your catalog year
Start with the subject and four-digit code from your degree plan. Use the class page to reach the official catalog entry for that code and edition. Read the full description for required grades, GPA, approval and any course you must take alongside it.
For CS 1411, use PDF page 817, numbered 779 on the printed page, of the official 2026–27 catalog. The entry is in the Computer Science undergraduate course descriptions.
Check both requirements for CS 1411
Programming Principles I is four semester credit hours. The catalog places department approval under prerequisite and MATH 1451 under corequisite. If Calculus I is still ahead of you, plan compatible CS 1411 and MATH 1451 sections and verify how to obtain the approval.
If you already took calculus, check whether the credit appears as MATH 1451 or a TTU-approved equivalent on your record before relying on it. The Transfer Evaluation Office has the equivalency lookup for courses from another institution.
Read nearby course codes separately
The entry immediately below it gives CS 1412 its own prerequisites. It requires a C or better in ENGR 1330 and a 2.5 TTU GPA. The titles are similar, so check the full code before using a prerequisite from one course to plan the other.
After you confirm eligibility, look up your term in TTU’s Schedule of Classes and check the section’s times and restrictions. Save a backup section if the timing or approval is still uncertain.
