Which Overton neighborhood fits your Texas Tech commute?

Use Broadway as the split. North Overton extends toward Fourth Street and South Overton toward 19th Street. For two apartments, compare the trip from each front door to the same class building, including the University Avenue crossing and your ride home.

Put both addresses on the same map

The Overton Revitalization Plan in the City of Lubbock archive describes the broader Overton Addition between Fourth Street and 19th Street, with University Avenue on the west and Avenue Q on the east. Broadway separates the north and south sides.

Use that street grid to orient your search. The City draws separate boundaries for programs such as the North Overton Public Improvement District and the South Overton zoning overlay, so check the relevant City map for an address-specific question.

Find both addresses on the housing map

Test the crossing and the campus leg

Start with the side closer to the building you’ll visit most. Fourth Street is the north reference point and 19th Street is the south reference point. An apartment farther east toward Avenue Q can add approach distance even when it sits on the same side of Broadway.

Locate the apartment on the housing map, then find the class building in Texas Tech Campus Locations. Test the route from the actual apartment entrance at the time you’ll make it. Include any crossing at University Avenue and the walk from the campus edge to the classroom.

Check the trip home before counting on a bus

Texas Tech says students can show a Texas Tech ID to ride off-campus Citibus routes free. Find the exact stop and schedule for your address in Citibus Maps and Schedules, and use GoPass to track the bus. An off-campus drop-off can still leave a campus transfer or a walk.

Check both your first class and your latest finish. TTU lists campus service until 7:17 p.m. on the Red Raider route and 6:59 p.m. on Double T and notes that service can take longer after 4 p.m. Check the current return service for the day you need it.

Parking and bus resources

Compare the permit route if you drive

Texas Tech lists Raider Park Garage north of campus with a pedestrian bridge across Marsha Sharp Freeway. Flint Avenue Parking Garage is at Flint Avenue and 19th Street. Check the permit for the lot you would use and add the walk from that lot to your class.

Keep three numbers for each apartment you tour. Compare the door-to-class trip, the last workable return, and the parking cost for the days you would drive. Use the same class building and time for both addresses.
