Texas Tech student health insurance and waivers
Choose your student group on Texas Tech’s 2026–27 Academic HealthPlans site. Domestic enrollment is generally optional for eligible students. International students on non-immigrant visas who take at least one credit hour are automatically enrolled unless they have an approved waiver.

Check your student group
For voluntary domestic coverage in 2026–27, the plan lists at least seven credit hours for undergraduates and four for graduate students during a regular term. The summer minimum is three for both. The plan also lists eligibility for certain other graduate and training situations. Doctor of Veterinary Medicine students have a separate required plan unless their waiver is approved.
Check whether your other coverage qualifies
TTU lists documented coverage through a U.S. employer, including medical evacuation and repatriation, as one international waiver route. Certain government or organization sponsors may also qualify when they guarantee the required expenses. TTU directs sponsored students to present documentation to the Office of International Affairs before registration. Check the official criteria before assuming your existing coverage will qualify.
Submit the waiver and check the decision
Academic HealthPlans lists November 20, 2026 through February 19, 2027 for the international Spring/Summer waiver window. Use the international waiver portal to submit your request and supporting documents. Keep the decision and check your student account after approval. TTU says international students who qualify must request a waiver again each fall and spring. AHP publishes a separate window for summer-only coverage.
