How do you compare Texas Tech majors before declaring?
Start with two programs you would actually take. Check the degree type and delivery location, then compare the required courses in the catalog edition that applies to you.
In this guide
Find the degree and college first
Undergraduate Admissions lists areas of study. Start there to find the college and program name. If you are choosing by work interests, use the Career Center’s interest-based lists to find a short set of programs to compare.
A degree type can matter even when the discipline name is the same. For example, Arts & Sciences lists both a B.A. and a B.S. in Chemistry. Read both degree plans before using a subject name as your decision.
Compare what you would take
Open both degree plans in Official Publications. Make one list of courses shared by both and a second list of courses only one requires. Search the catalog for prerequisites and sequencing before assuming an elective or transfer credit will replace a requirement.
Confirm delivery and entry requirements
Read the offering college’s requirements for your program and location. If you already attend Texas Tech, check the target major’s entry requirements and talk with the receiving advisor before asking to declare it.
