How to earn Texas Tech credit by exam
Use Academic Testing Services’ current tables to match the exam and score to a Texas Tech course number. Check where that course fits your degree, then have the official score sent to TTU so the Registrar can record qualifying credit.
In this guide
Match the score to the course you need
Compare the exact course number and score threshold in TTU’s AP, CLEP, and IB tables with your DegreeWorks audit. For example, TTU lists a score of at least 3 on AP Art History for ARTH 2302. It lets you request ARTH 1301 instead through the Registrar. Choose one equivalency. Ask your advisor which equivalency will serve your degree before requesting a change.
Send the official score and check the transcript
Arrange for your exam provider to send your official score to Texas Tech. OP 34.08 puts responsibility for score delivery to the Registrar on the student. After the score posts, check the transcript for the expected credit and use DegreeWorks to see how it applies. Exam credit adds earned hours without changing your GPA, and it does not count toward the minimum hours that must be taken at TTU for graduation.

Check permissions before booking a new exam
If you’re planning a CLEP exam, follow TTU’s testing and appointment steps. Seniors must notify their academic dean’s office before attempting credit by exam and provide proof when they register with Academic Testing Services. If you’re already enrolled in the course, OP 34.08 requires written dean’s office approval to attempt the exam after the 12th class day.
