How to complete the Texas Tech core curriculum
Texas Tech’s undergraduate core is 42 semester credit hours. Use the catalog for your year and DegreeWorks to see which areas are still open. Check separate university and major requirements before choosing your next class.

Separate the core from other graduation requirements
TTU’s core covers communication, math, science, language and culture, creative arts, U.S. history, government, and social and behavioral science. Its six hours of life and physical sciences are part of the 42-hour core. TTU lists two lab science hours as a separate university graduation requirement. Check the lab options and your major’s rules before you assume a lecture will finish both.

Match a course to the open audit requirement
Start with an unmet component in DegreeWorks. Look up the exact prefix and course number on the approved core list for your catalog year, then compare it with courses your major specifically requires. If several options count, ask your advisor which one also keeps you on track for your major or prerequisites.
Check how your transfer core posted
A completed 42-hour core from another Texas public college or university transfers as a block. If you completed only part of that core, eligible courses can count toward the relevant components while remaining areas stay open. Send your official transcript to TTU and check the evaluation and your audit. A core marked complete may still leave a separate lab or major requirement.
